James spent 15 years as a police officer in Chicago and eight years as a mental health counselor in Memphis. He received his Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from Walden University

James’ book takes aim at the:

  • The prison system as this country’s de facto mental health system
  • The relationship between graduation rates, academic achievement, and index crime.
  • The police’s use-of-force and the minority communities
